Most City Offices will close early at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, September 27 for an employee event. The City Clerk's Office will remain open with regular hours to assist voters. Utility customers can leave payments in the drop box or find other payment options on this website.
Eligible property taxpayers can apply to defer their summer tax bill. If you apply and are approved, your summer tax bill will become due on the same date as your winter tax bill. Deferment is not available for winter tax bills.
To qualify for deferment, your gross household income for the preceding year must not have exceed $40,000 and one of the following must apply to you:
Applications must be submitted to the City Treasurer's Office by September 15 for the current year.
To apply for tax deferment, complete the State of Michigan Application for Deferment of Summer Taxes and return it to the City Treasurer's Office by September 15. Copies of the application can be picked up at City Hall and returned in person or by mail to:
City of Kalamazoo 241 W South Street Kalamazoo, MI 49007

Application for Deferment of Summer Taxes
Completed and signed applications can be returned by email to 311@kalamazoocity.org.
Review of these applications generally happens very quickly. If you return your application in person during business hours, it could be reviewed and approved when you drop it off.
After your application is approved, your summer taxes will become due the same day as your winter taxes. Deferment does not remove or reduce the amount of taxes you owe, so make sure you still pay all taxes due on your new due date.
