The City Treasurer's Office will close at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 13. The office will reopen with regular hours on Monday, December 16.

Departments

Kalamazoo's city government is responsible for a huge range of services that our community depends on every day. To provide these essential services, the city government is organized into specialized departments that each have a specific role. Community Planning & Economic Development

Kalamazoo's Community Planning & Economic Development Department (CPED) works to create a healthy, safe, and sustainable community.

City Assessor's Office

The City Assessor's Office performs and maintains property assessments for the equitable distribution of the property tax burden under law.

City Attorney's Office

The City Attorney's Office provides legal representation for the City as a government entity and provides legal advice to the City Commission, the City Manager, and all employees pertaining to city-related matters.

City Clerk's Office

The City Clerk's Office is responsible for the management and preservation of the official records, municipal elections, licensing of certain businesses, among other duties assigned by the City Commission.

City Manager's Office

The City Manager is appointed by the City Commission to serve as the chief administrative manager of the city. The City Manager's Office coordinates the delivery of services within guidelines established by the City Commission.

City Treasurer's Office

The City Treasurer's Office processes payments and responsibly manages public funds.

Diversity Equity and Inclusion

The Department of Diversity Equity and Inclusion leads initiatives to make city government more fair and welcoming to everyone in our community.

Human Resources

The Human Resources (HR) department provides personnel services for all City employees, like employee and labor relations, benefits & compensation, recruitment, retention, and training & development.

Information Technology

The Information Technology Department is responsible for the City's technology infrastructure- things like hardware and software, voice and data communication, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and network connectivity.

Internal Auditor

The City Commission appoints an Internal Auditor to provide independent oversight and promote accountability and effectiveness of city government.

Management Services

Management Services is responsible for the administration, management, and control of the city's finances.

Parks & Recreation

Kzoo Parks maintains more than 30 city parks for everyone to enjoy and offers a variety of programs for youth and adults.

Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo's Public Safety department provides professional law enforcement, fire protection, and emergency medical service for everyone in our community

Public Services

The Public Services department is responsible for many of the services residents use every day like water & sewer utilities, waste collection, streets, forestry, and more.
