Rental Housing

Residential rental properties in the city of Kalamazoo must be registered and certified to make sure they are safe and sanitary for tenants. Properties that pass inspection are certified between 28 and 52 months based on the property's history. All types of rental properties must pass periodic inspections including short-term rentals like hotels, motels, and properties listed on Airbnb or VRBO. Short-term rentals like these are also considered a commercial enterprise and are only permitted in certain zoning districts.
