Traffic Calming (Safe Streets for All) The City of Kalamazoo was awarded a Safe Streets for All Grant to pilot traffic calming measures and create a comprehensive plan to make city streets safer for everyone. Announcement : Installation of these projects is nearly complete. Traffic studies from these areas have also been posted (data is from before projects are implemented). Development of the Safety Action Plan has started and we invite you to share your feedback by taking the Action Plan Survey and using the Input Map (see below).
Water System Corrosion Control Treatment Optimization Kalamazoo's water is treated with phosphate to coat the inside of pipes and prevent metals from leeching into the water in our homes and businesses. This project will optimize that treatment process.
Westnedge Ave Water Main and Reconstruction A coordinated infrastructure project on Westnedge Avenue will be completed in 2024. Water main will be replaced and the road will be rebuilt, including the intersection of Whites and Westnedge. Announcement : Paving and pavement markings are all completed, but some final finishing items will require traffic control through December 10. Final completion was delayed due to unplanned repairs to some existing storm sewers, the sewer replacement on Westnedge Ct, and the significant archeological and historic discovery in the area.
Whites Rd Water Main & Reconstruction A water main replacement project on Whites Road will continue from Oakland to Westnedge, with a road diet and other improvements. Announcement : The Whites Rd project is nearly completed and it has reopened to two-way traffic. Temporary traffic control remains in place until the lane markings can be painted, which is scheduled for this week (the week of 10/28).
WMU Campus Lighting Improvements Street lighting will be updated near WMU Campus on Fraternity Village Dr, California Ave, and W Michigan Ave.
