2024 Lead Water Service Replacements Approximately 800 lead water services will be replaced in 2024 with much of that work focused in the Northside Neighborhood and the north part of the system.
Balch Street Water Main Replacement (Park to Burdick) Replacement of an 8- and 12-inch water main below Balch Street with a single 24-inch water main, plus hydrant replacement and lead pipe replacement in the area. Announcement : Balch St will close to through traffic for this project starting Monday, July 22. Local access will be maintained.
Bike Corral A pilot "Bike Corral" will bring new bike parking to Downtown Kalamazoo! It will provide 10 spaces for bikes at different locations throughout the year.

Event Center & Consumers Energy Utility Work A series of utility projects in 2024 will reroute and upgrade our infrastructure to prepare for the new downtown event center. They will also improve the gas, electric, water, wastewater, and stormwater utilities to prepare the city for a bright future. Announcement : Work in the north lanes of Kalamazoo Ave continues and is expected to be completed 7/31. Starting Thursday, 6/27, Park St will be closed at Kalamazoo Ave to continue this project.Park St will also be closed at Ransom St for the continuation of that project.The Park St detour is Michigan Ave to Rose to North.
Exchange Place & Corporation Alley Resurfacing Pavement will be replaced on Exchange Place and Corporation Alley.
GPI Sewer Reconstruction A sewer will be reconstructed in 2024 to help reduce odors near Graphics Packing and the Kalamazoo Water Reclamation Plant.
Howard Street (Stadium to Michigan) Howard Street will be resurfaced with a new left turn opening added from Howard to Rogowski Ave, storm sewer improvements, and some new sidewalk ramps. Announcement : The scheduled for this project has been updated. Work is now scheduled to begin in July. It will still be completed before WMU resumes classes in the fall.
HSIP Vulnerable Road User Safety Projects The City of Kalamazoo was awarded a $1.5 million grant to fund safety improvement projects at 30 locations in the City in 2025. The projects will improve safety for vulnerable road users (VRU) like pedestrians and bicyclists.
Inkster Street Bridge Reconstruction The Inkster Street Bridge will be reconstructed in 2024, with several improvements and a design based on community feedback. Announcement : This project is now scheduled to be completed in early August and we expect Bronson Boulevard will reopen before the 4th of July. The intersection of Whites and Bronson will close starting Monday, June 24 through July 12 as part of the Whites Rd project.
