Non-essential City of Kalamazoo offices will be closed on Tuesday, December 24, and Wednesday, December 25 in observance of Christmas. Regular hours will resume on Thursday, December 26.
The City of Kalamazoo was awarded a $1.5 million grant to fund safety improvement projects at 30 locations in the City in 2025. The projects will improve safety for vulnerable road users (VRU) like pedestrians and bicyclists. The improvements will include pavement markings, ADA sidewalk improvements, bumpouts, and pedestrian refuge islands.
The grant was awarded by the Michigan Department of Transportation's (MDOT) Highways Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). The Foundation for Excellence (FFE) will provide $427,347 in matching funds to secure the grant. By leveraging funding from FFE to obtain this grant, we'll be able to do 5x as much work to improve safety around the city.

The locations for this project were chosen based on a variety of feedback from community members like Neighborhood Plans, outeach for Park St & Westnedge Ave, and requests received by our 311 team. Construction and implementation will happen in 2025.
