Interested in a career in lead abatement? Join us for a free informational session on April 10, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Kalamazoo Michigan Works (1601 S Burdick St) to learn how to become a certified lead abatement worker or supervisor.

This session, hosted by the City of Kalamazoo, Michigan Department of Health & Human Services, and Michigan Works, will cover:

  • Training for Lead Abatement Workers (no construction experience needed, six months recommended)
  • Certification for Lead Supervisors (two years of construction experience required)
  • Work details, including window replacement, painting, and lead hazard removal

These careers pay average salaries of up to $87,000 ($42/hour) and there’s a high demand for contractors that can perform this work for the City’s Lead-Based Paint Remediation Program.
