Are you planning to develop real estate in Kalamazoo or improve your business or commercial building? Begin by submitting the Pre-Development Intake Form. This form connects you with our staff to discuss your project ideas and determine the appropriate next steps. Our team can support you during the process and ensure your project is a success.
Pre-Development Form
Once a concept is more fully developed, most development projects apply for the Site Plan Review process. This administrative process involves two meetings with our staff to ensure your plans meet city standards. The Pre-Development step will help you learn when this step is needed and how to best prepare for site plan application.
Apply for Site Plan Review
NOTE: Some projects may require additional zoning approvals before proceeding to Site Plan Review. During the Pre-Development stage, our staff will help you identify any necessary zoning requests. You can also review zoning applications and board schedules here.
Apply for Board or Commission Review
After obtaining site plan approval, apply for the necessary permits through our Building & Construction Permits team (soil erosion, building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, etc.). You may schedule a pre-construction meeting to discuss code requirements, inspection schedules, and expectations. This team will guide you through construction and assist in obtaining your Certificate of Occupancy.
