Disposal Alternatives: Recycling Appliances, Office Items, Electronics and Other Miscellaneous Items
APPLIANCES: (Air Conditioners, Refrigerators, Stoves, Water Heaters, Washing Machines and Clothes Dryers) Collected the same day as your quarterly bulk trash. Please clean the appliance, be sure it is empty of all materials and removal all doors. If you want your appliance removed on a different day than your scheduled bulk trash collection day, Charlie’s Appliance Removal (375-0899) will pick up your appliance for a fee. The contract will collect and recycle any Freon.
BATTERIES: Any battery is potentially hazardous but most can be recycled at the Household Hazardous Waste Center (HHW).
CLOTHES & HOUSEWARES: Take to the Kalamazoo Deacons Conference, Kalamazoo Gospel Mission, Goodwill and the Salvation Army.
CONCRETE: Consumers Concrete (Fee) (342-5983).
CONSTRUCTION WASTE: Student Haulers (Fee) (345-4285).
ELECTRONICS: The State of Michigan requires certain electronics retailers to offer free recycling programs. Please see the following links for electronics recycling information and drop-off options:
FLUORESCENT BULBS AND TUBES: Household Hazardous Waste Center.
INKJET PRINTER CARTRIDGES: Goodwill stores, the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission, or the HHW Center.
METAL SCRAP: Kalamazoo Metal Recyclers has a 24-hour drop box. Schupan and Ace Iron & Metal.
MOTOR OIL (Used): Do not mix oil with antifreeze or gas. Used oil can be taken to AutoZone, Pep Boys, Uncle Ed’s Oil Shoppe and the HHW Center. If oil does get mixed, it can be taken to the HHW Center.
PACKING PEANUTS: Mail Room, Pak Mail and UPS Store collects packing peanuts for reuse.
PLASTIC BAGS: Wal-Mart and Meijer
PROPANE TANKS: (Fee) Amerigas, (343-5253) at 1600 King Highway accepts large grill size. The HHW Center accepts smaller, one-pound propane cylinders.
TIRES: (Fee) Discount Tire, Firestone and Kzoo Tire Co.
